Wolverhampton is still buzzing with excitement and anticipation for the start of the new season. As we come ever closer to the start of the new premier league season with an opening fixture against West Ham. I eagerly wait for teams like: Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City (small club as quoted by Sir Alex Ferguson) It was nerves and excitement towards the closing stages of last season. However its excitement and nerves as the new season approaches. In my humble opinion, we need a good start to pick up momentum and gain confidence. The fans are key to ensure success by motivating and encouraging the team at every opportunity but also need to be patient as we have a long journey which will have many twists and turns. With the inclusion of six new faces into the club, I am feeling confident that Wolves will succeed and remain in the Premier League for a number of seasons. Although there are a few players new to the Premier League and it will take a few games for the players to gel together, I have some reservation about some of our new and existing squad members, whether they will be able to withstand the pace and skill of the Premier League. I’m disappointed with pre-season fixtures. I was expecting some big foreign team visiting molineux testing our new squad The back four are relatively inexperienced and lack pace, which could cause problems with pace players like Walcott, Agbonlahor and Rooney. On the other hand, our strike force has the ability to cause problems to the opposing team and hopefully together Ebanks Blake and Kevin Doyle can score a few goals. We can also call upon players like: Iwelumo, Vokes and Keogh who we know from the past can change the outcome of a game. We have some very talented and skilful players in midfield but whether they can stand up to the big occasion is another question. Matt Jarvis and Michael Kightly are key to the midfield as they both have skill and pace and will trouble opposition. Nenad Milijas’ influence in the midfield may dictate Wolves success in the Premier League through his ability provide service to the front two. My dream/prediction would be for Wolves to win the Premier League, qualify for the Champions League and lift the FA cup. Reality kicked in, a mid-table finish would be a great achievement for the first season. We should all enjoy the new season and stay positive, supporting Wolves throughout the season whatever the outcome.
